Biopsy

A biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure used to obtain a small tissue or fluid sample from the body for further analysis. Using imaging guidance such as ultrasound, CT (Computed Tomography), or fluoroscopy (real-time X-ray), the radiologist precisely targets the area of concern. The collected sample is examined in the laboratory to determine whether changes are inflammatory, infectious, or tumorous. Our centers also offer advanced techniques such as prostate fusion biopsy and vacuum assisted biopsy for highly specialized diagnostic needs.

When is a biopsy used?

A biopsy is recommended when imaging shows an unclear mass, possible tumor, or inflammatory change that requires further clarification. It helps confirm a diagnosis and guides treatment planning without the need for major surgery.

Preparation & Procedure

Medical review

Your doctor reviews prior imaging studies and medical history to determine whether an image-guided biopsy is appropriate. 

Arrival and preparation

You are welcomed by our team, and the procedure is explained in detail. The area is disinfected and prepared under sterile conditions. 

Local anesthesia

The skin and surrounding tissue are numbed with local anesthesia to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. 

Image-guided sampling

Using ultrasound, CT (Computed Tomography), or fluoroscopy, the radiologist guides a fine needle precisely into the target area to obtain tissue or fluid samples. 

After the exam

You are monitored briefly after the procedure and can usually return home the same day. Results are discussed once laboratory analysis is complete. 

Special about Biopsy

Image guidance allows highly precise targeting while minimizing risk and discomfort. In cases of fluid collections or abscesses, a small drainage catheter can be placed under imaging control. This minimally invasive approach may replace more extensive surgery. Samples can be sent for histological or microbiological analysis.
